Convertible Top Motor

Convertibles are a lot of fun to drive, aren't they? Putting the top down on your car on a sunny day and feeling the wind blow through your hair is one of the best feelings that you can have while you are driving your car. Some of the convertibles on the market have manual tops that you will have to physically move back and off the top of the car, and some of the convertibles use a motor that you can operate from the driver's seat.

As much as you love your convertible, the convertible top motor can sometimes pose a problem. Just like all mechanical parts, sometimes they just stop working. This can come at a very inconvenient time if the convertible top motor stops working when you were enjoying the top down. Unless you have your car fixed right away, you are now subjected to rain and theft with your car completely exposed and open. This is why it is vital that you have the convertible top motor fixed right away.

Even if the convertible top motor stops working while the top is up, it is still an inconvenience. What is the point of having a convertible if you are never able to put the top down? In some cases, you will be able to move the top with physical force, but it is generally very difficult. They were designed to be moved with a motor, after all.

Look for a mechanic that is familiar with working on convertible top motors. Not everyone is familiar with these motors. It is important that you find someone who can have your convertible top moving freely as soon as possible to secure your vehicle and keep the elements like rain out of your car.

Call around to various mechanics in your area and ask if they have worked on a convertible top motor before. It is important that you find someone with some experience handling these motors. You don’t want the motor installed incorrectly and face more problems later on down the road. There are many shops that specialize in convertible tops and can repair the convertible top motor as well as patch up holes or tears in the top.

Having a convertible is fun, but there is some risk involved in driving one of these cars. Even driving a convertible can be a little tricky. The rear windows in some convertibles are plastic and unless you are accustomed to looking out a plastic window, it can be a little hard to get used to. You will also find that you must be more vigilant about looking for leaks in your roof. On a hard top roof, you will not find as big of a problem, but the slightest tear in your convertible canvas roof can lead to many problems for the interior of your car.

Keep an ear out for whistling sounds while you are driving your car with the top up. This is a good indication that air is coming in through the roof. If air can come through, rain can come through as well. And test out your convertible top motor before you go out for a day of driving in your convertible. Preferably, you should check this out in a garage. At least you will not be heading down the road with your top stuck down.

Even with all of these extra problems that could arise from owning a convertible, there is nothing in the world like driving down the road with the top down in a convertible. It is a freeing feeling and you will be able to enjoy the fresh air and sunshine while you are driving your car. Just be sure that your convertible top motor is in good working order at all times.
