Strut Mounts

Strut mounts are not only used as basic mounts located at the top of a strut, but rather they are also used as an axis for your vehicles steering process. Strut mounts help give your vehicle a smooth response to your steering system's movement. Since strut mounts affect multiple tasks your car must be capable of doing, it's important that they stay in good shape.

Worn Strut Mounts
If your strut mounts start to wear out, it may become harder to control your vehicle, your vehicle may drive rougher, and it can start causing rattling or squeaky noises while driving. Strut mounts wear out from extensive driving or driving your vehicle recklessly. Depending on what type of terrain you drive on, your strut mounts may wear out quickly. Signs of Worn Struts
As previously mentioned, strut mounts will start making rattling noises when they are worn out, and driving will be rougher as well. There are quite a few signs that you may notice which would hint at strut mounts being worn out. This includes, but is not limited to: a frequent clunking sound, vibration noise, excessive tire wear, bad alignment, and difficult-to-control steering.

Not only can you tell if your strut mounts are worn out by the noise or how your vehicle feels while driving, but there are visual signs of worn strut mounts as well. You may notice minor rubber sagging or cracking, corrosion around the strut mounts, and possibly parts getting bent out of position.

Strut Boots
Strut boots share an equally important role with assisting the struts to work properly and stay in good shape. The strut boots are responsible for keeping dirt and debris from accessing the strut shafts. The strut boots are also designed to make it impossible for the struts to fall out of position. If you ever replace your struts, you should also replace your strut boots, as well as the strut mounts. This will keep your whole struts system new and prevent future replacements being needed.

Guide to Replace the Strut Mounts
It's not hard to replace your strut mounts. Removing the worn struts will be an easy job and will only take a moment or two. Installation of the new strut mounts is something that takes quite a bit of focus. When installing new strut mounts to your vehicle, you will have to be precise with how much torque is used when handling the strut mount nut.

When you apply the new strut mounts, you will have to make sure the holes are lined with the nuts perfectly before you screw them in place. If the nuts aren't screwed precisely in the hole, it could lead to immediate damage and the possibility of worse damage once the vehicle has been driven.

When you're screwing the nut into the appropriate hole, hold the strut mount in place with a vice. By doing so, you can further prevent damage from occurring due to improper installation. Make sure to torque the upper strut nut according to your vehicle's torque specs, which varies by vehicle. You can find out the torque specifications by speaking with a worker at an auto store.

Once you tighter the nut as specified, you can remove the vice. The strut mount will now be installed and if done properly there should be no damage or risk of future damage that could be caused by a loose installation or a misaligned installation.
