Detailing Wax
Automobile detailing involves thoroughly cleaning, polishing and waxing a vehicle inside and out. This is done to prepare an automobile for a show or simply for those who prefer their cars to be especially clean. Detailing wax is used to make the exterior of automobiles shine and helps to protect the vehicle against things such as road grime, dust and other elements that may dull or harm the paint. Wax comes in either paste or liquid form and prevents foreign matter from sticking to your car’s paint. Things such as tar from roads, water, bugs and other elements are repelled from the exterior of your vehicle when you use wax to seal and provide a barrier against harmful elements. Using detailing wax correctly is very important in ensuring that it does what it is designed to do.
First, you must select the wax that is best for your specific vehicle. The market is filled with natural car detailing waxes that contain carnauba which is very good for the paint. Synthetic detailing waxes are also available. You should do your own research and choose the wax product that you feel is best for your vehicle. You need to determine if you want to protect your car for several months or simply give it a shiny or bright finish for just a few weeks. Different waxes will offer different benefits, so first determine just what you want from your detailing wax. It is important to note that many wax products contain harmful abrasives that can scratch the paint on your car. Be sure that you choose a detailing wax that contains no abrasive ingredients.
Before you apply the detailing wax to your vehicle, you need to prepare your vehicle. You should thoroughly wash and rinse the car and then allow enough time for it to completely dry before waxing. You may also want to inspect the vehicle to ensure that you have removed all surface dirt as well as any dirt that may be deeply embedded into the finish. It is also a good idea to use a polishing product before waxing to ensure that you get the best possible results from your wax. Be certain that you pay strict attention to the weather when you wax. You should never apply wax to a vehicle on days that are extremely cold or hot. Also, applying wax in direct sunlight will cause the wax to harden and dry much too quickly and could potentially harm the finish. Be certain that you park your vehicle in a shaded area before you begin applying detailing wax.
Detailing wax should always be applied with a clean, damp sponge. Dip the sponge into the wax if you are using a paste wax or pour a bit of wax on the sponge if you are using liquid wax. Apply wax in a circular motion and use small circles. Be certain that you avoid getting the wax into seams such as the ones on the car doors and hood. Apply wax in sections at a time. For instance, if you begin on the hood, finish the hood completely before you move on to another section. Once you have covered the entire car in wax, allow the wax to dry for the recommended time on the manufacturer’s product.
Buffing the detailing wax off is a crucial step in receiving the shiny finish and protecting your vehicle. You can either buff the wax off with an electric buffer or do it by hand. If you are buffing by hand, be certain to choose a very soft cloth, preferably a microfiber cloth. Begin with the first section that you applied the wax and work your way in sections around the vehicle until all of the wax is completely removed. Once all the wax is removed, go over the vehicle again with a clean microfiber cloth to buff up the shine and ensure that all remnants of the wax are removed.
