Optima Battery Chargers

Optima batteries are a popular brand of powerful, enduring batteries used to power vehicles for instance cars and boats. Keep in mind that the voltage range of a charger should be a minimum of 12.8 volts to 15.0 volts and never to charge Optima or any other sorts of batteries over 15.6 volts. Specific charging methods stated below will help you charge your Optima batteries properly to ensure a longer battery lifespan:

  • Optima YellowTop Batteries – Such batteries serve dual purposes as they can be used for both engine start-ups and deep cycle applications which are usually heavy vehicles that need to carry excessive loads. The suggested charging information is that the battery charger should be between 13.8 to 15.0 volts with a maximum of 10amps that can be applied to the YellowTop batteries for a period of 6 to 12 hours approximate. The charging should be carried out with 14.7 volts as long as the battery temperature stays below 125°F (51.7°C). However, when the current falls under 1 amp, it is advisable to wrap up the charging with two amp current constantly for about an hour. For fast recharging set the voltage to 15.6 volts, never exceeding this limit. Duration is deducible as far as the temperature of the battery remains under 125°F (51.7°C) and the current doesn’t fall below one amp.
  • Optima BlueTop Batteries – Same as above, however difference being that these batteries are only used for engine start-ups
  • Optima RedTop Batteries- Not recommended for deep cycle applications, these sorts of batteries help boost engine starts. 6.65 to 7.5 volts, no amperage limit. They should be charged with 6.9 to 7.5 volts, 10 amps maximum for 6-12 hours approximate.
