Synthetic Oil Filters
When it comes to taking care of our vehicles, one of the most important things we can do is change the oil regularly. Without clean oil and oil filters our cars cannot function properly. The type of vehicle you drive and the weather climate you live in can determine the best kind of oil you should use for your car. There are also two different oil types you can choose from. There are conventional oils and synthetic oils that can be used.
Conventional oil is the type of oil that most cars and trucks have been using for years and years. The synthetic types of oil are newer and were originally designed for aircraft and vehicles used by the military. More recently however the synthetic oils have become more popular and they have become more available for many models of cars. It is recommended that the conventional oil in a car should be replaced every 3,000 miles but the synthetic oils have proven to perform to higher standards lasting up to 50,000 miles. This is a quite a big difference in performance quality. This is not to say that conventional oils do not perform to high standards as well, it just means that you will have to have your oil checked and changed more frequently using the conventional oils rather than the synthetic brands.
There is another difference between using conventional oils versus synthetic oils and that is the price of the oil. Conventional oils are much cheaper than synthetic but the price of synthetic oils can be well worth the extra expense. It is really a matter of personal preference and the type of car you are driving. Older cars seem to work better with conventional oils whereas the newer models are made to use the synthetic oils as well as conventional. When you use conventional oil you have to select one that will work the best in your climate. If you live in extremely cold weather you must accommodate for that by selecting an oil that will not freeze. Synthetic oils are made to be extremely tolerant of both very hot and very cold temperatures, which is why they are used in many government vehicles as well as aircraft carriers.
Many people wonder about what type of oil filters they should use when changing their oil with conventional oil or synthetic oil. There are a couple different types of oil filters just as there are types of oil. Depending on your model and type of vehicle you will have either a cartridge filter or a spin on filter. After you have determined the type of filter system you have in your car you can then select what brand of filter you like. Some are made a little better than others and may catch more debris and impurities in the oil. The better quality brands may also last longer than some of the cheaper brands. There are also newer filters that are referred to as synthetic oil filters that use a special type of glass microfiber that allows the oil to filter at an incredibly fast pace with excellent cleaning qualities. Synthetic oil filters have been designed to last up to 100,000 miles before needing to be replaced. They work with either type of oil, conventional or synthetic, but for best results using synthetic oil may be beneficial.
When it comes to maintaining your car's oil and filters it is best to follow the advice of the car manufacturer. Each car is made a little different and some models of cars require more or less frequent oil changes than indicated above.
